When you think ‘elopement’ you often picture far off places and traveling across the globe with the one you love. But have you ever thought about what it would be like to elope in the city you call home? Our favourite fashion stylist and amazing team member, Sarah G. Schmidt, wrote us a piece about her YYC elopement and why they have never looked back.

Deciding to get married was never the issue for us - we were committed for many years and we were slowly building our life - the how to do it was the debate. After putting it off for years and years, my partner suggested eloping right here in our city.
We planned it for a Monday afternoon - leap day - on the Peace Bridge in our neighbourhood. We loved that bridge and loved that it connected our city. Plus it was a gorgeous backdrop to capture the day.
Afterward, we toasted ourselves with a local tour of margaritas, beer, and dinner at a favourite restaurant.
That night when we got home, I pushed our pre-made website live and started making, “We took the leap and got married. Yes. I’m not messing with you. ‘When?’ Oh, today,” phone calls to our parents and siblings.

The day was just for us and it was quite simply, lovely.
We celebrated throughout that year with hundreds of our loved ones through many gatherings; lakeside BBQs, dinners out, dinners in, and a big old baseball game. We did it our way and have never looked back.
